Mercury Marine Limited Warranty
Every new Mercury outboard motor purchased from MercuryOutboards.ca comes with a comprehensive factory-backed warranty from Mercury Marine. This warranty protects you against defects in materials and workmanship.
Standard Warranty Coverage

Outboard Motors (Pleasure Use): 3-year limited warranty

Emission Control System: 5 years or 175 hours of engine use, whichever comes first

Corrosion Protection: Included for the warranty period when maintenance requirements are met
Your warranty coverage is factory-backed. Your dealer works directly with Mercury Marine, so you won't need to deal with independent providers or insurance companies.
Warranty Start Date
Your warranty period begins on whichever date comes first:
- The date the motor is first sold to a retail purchaser
- The date the motor is first put into service
Important: Products are excluded from warranty 6 years after the date of manufacture, regardless of when purchased.
Warranty Registration
We handle your warranty registration. After your purchase, we register your motor with Mercury Marine on your behalf. You don't need to do anything.
You'll receive confirmation once your registration is complete.
What's Covered
Mercury Marine will, at its option:
- Repair a defective part
- Replace defective parts with new or Mercury Marine certified remanufactured parts
- Refund the purchase price of the product
Warranty repairs cover parts and labour when performed by an authorized Mercury Marine dealer.
What's Not Covered
The Mercury Marine Limited Warranty doesn't cover:
Maintenance and Wear Items
- Routine maintenance items or adjustments
- Normal wear and tear
- Faded paint
- Bearings with water damage from improper maintenance
Damage From
- Abuse, abnormal use, neglect, or accident
- Submersion or striking a submerged object
- Improper service, alteration, or removal of parts
- Using a propeller or gear ratio outside the recommended RPM range
- Operating the motor inconsistently with the recommended duty cycle
- Improper installation
- Using accessories or parts not manufactured, sold, or tested by Mercury Marine
Costs and Expenses
- Repairs performed outside normal working hours
- Haul-out, launch, towing, or storage
- Slip fees, insurance coverage, or loan payments
- Rental, telephone, or inconvenience costs
- Loss of time or income
- Removal or replacement of boat partitions to access the motor
Keeping Your Warranty Valid
To maintain your warranty coverage:

Follow the maintenance schedule in your Operation and Maintenance Manual

Keep service records for all maintenance performed

Use corrosion prevention devices specified in your manual

Replace sacrificial anodes according to the maintenance schedule

Use specified lubricants as recommended

Touch up nicks and scratches promptly to prevent corrosion
Mercury Marine reserves the right to make warranty coverage contingent upon proof of proper maintenance.
Making a Warranty Claim
If you experience a problem covered by the warranty:

Contact an authorized Mercury Marine dealer in your area

Bring your documentation: proof of purchase, warranty registration confirmation, and service records

Provide reasonable access to the motor for inspection and repair
- The dealer will diagnose the issue and process your claim directly with Mercury Marine
Note: Don't ship the motor or parts directly to Mercury Marine unless specifically requested.
All warranty claims must be truthful, accurate, and supported by documentation. False claims may result in denial of coverage.
Warranty Transfer
Unexpired warranty coverage can be transferred from one pleasure-use owner to another upon proper re-registration of the motor. To transfer:
- Mail or fax a copy of the bill of sale
- Include the new owner's name and address
- Include the engine serial number
- Send to Mercury Marine Warranty Registration Department
Note: Warranty coverage can't be transferred to or from commercial-use customers.
Extended Coverage Options
Mercury Product Protection (MPP) is a factory-backed extended service contract that covers certain expenses after your Mercury Limited Warranty expires. MPP can provide up to 8 years of total coverage. Contact your authorized Mercury dealer to learn about eligibility and options.

Keep these documents safe for warranty purposes:
- Order confirmation email
- Invoice/receipt from MercuryOutboards.ca
- Bill of sale with purchase date
- Delivery confirmation and photos of the motor upon arrival
- Warranty registration confirmation
- All service and maintenance records
- Operation and Maintenance Manual
